If you can believe it, in 1990, when I began treating patients in Atascadero, I worked in a Cash Practice, and our fees were $38.00 for an adjustment.  32 years later, with inflation, the prices have gone up as you can imagine.

I have tried to make Chiropractic Care as affordable as possible. 

Cash Patients

     Cash Patients:  A treatment can include one area of your back, say you lower back, or it can include your entire spine.  If several areas are treated, more billing codes will be charged, and the prices are adjusted accordingly.

Typically, an adjustment is billed at $80.00, and if therapies are performed, like Ultrasound, Electrical Muscle Stimulation, or Therapeutic Exercises, an additional fee of $40.00 submitted to the insurance company.  If an Examination or a Re-examination is necessary, costs vary, depending upon the complexity of your conditions, beginning at $75.00. We do offer Prompt Payment Discounts, meaning if we receive your payment on the same day that the treatment is given, because the extra step of billing is avoided, the fees are cut considerably.  Another option exists for those with financial hardships, where a temporary arrangement can be made with you and Dr. Don to only pay what you can. We will do all that we can to make the treatment affordable; finances should never be the reason that keeps you for getting well here.

     HMO:  Since I am not part of Health Maintenance Organization, I am not permitted to bill for services, therefore, HMO patients will be considered cash and fees above will apply.

     Massage Therapy

Massages are not currently available.  As a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, and related complications, we have decided to wait before hiring another therapist. 

 Insurance Patients:

     PPO:  We currently are accepting approximately 50% of these Carriers, so at the time of your visit or if necessary, the following day, we will call your Carrier and do a "Verification" to see if they will help with compensation.  In those cases where we are not "In Network," you will be treated as a Cash Patient, entitled to take advange of the Prompt Payment Discount as mentioned above.

With a Preferred Provider Organization, like Blue Cross or Aetna, the fees for the CPT Codes we use to bill for services are established by Zipcode.  This means that the same adjustment in Beverly Hills will cost you more than they do here in Templeton.

For your information, every Insurance Company reimburses at an agreed upon, or contracted, rate.  In order for a doctor to be a Participating Provider, the doctor has to agree to these negotiated rates. In general, the fees always seem to be too high to the patients and these contracted rates usually seem to be too low for the doctors.  Doctors do not set the Fee Schedule, that just follow it.  If you have any questions, please ask Dr. Don to explain, but keep in mind that we will do all we can to ease both the pains in your body and in your wallet.

 I am a Preferred Provider

Medicare: Medicare is a Government Payor.  They determine the rates Doctors can charge in every Zip Code in the United States.  As of 2022, Medicare deductibles have risen to $233.00 per calender year. When you are in deductible, the charges per treatment range from $29.37 to $54.88, unless you have Therapy, which is an additional cost out of pocket.  Once you have met your deductible, you will be charged a co-insurance fee which 20% of the normal rate, and can be as little as $5.00.

** If you have a "True Secondary," in many cases what medicare does not pay, they will cover.  In these cases, you may not have any "out of pocket" expenses at the time of services.

Remember, Medicare will not pay for unapproved services, ie. Exams, Therapies, or X-rays.  If these services are provided, the patient will not be able to be reimbursed by their Primary or Secondary.  

      Personal Injury:  If you are involved in a car accident, we can certainly help.  We'll need your information for your Auto Insurance Company, a Police Report if available, and of course a more thorough examination due to the complexity of the injury.  A Co-Pay of $20.00 will be required at the time of treatment, however, once the Insurance Company pays the balance of the medical bills, you will be fully reimbursed.  Remember, it shouldn't cost you to be in a collision.  Come in... we can help!

    Worker's Compensation:

If you have been injured at work, we can certainly help you.  In fact, most of our patients are injury at work.  However, if you were injured at work and your employer required you to open a claim, at that point, they will require you to be treated by one of their physicians.  In situations like this, unfortunately, we are not able to help you, even though we'd like to.  Worker's Compensation patients will be directed and advised by their employers as to their options for treatment and given a list of providers.  Once your claim "settles" I'd be more than happy to help you with any health concerns you may have.

Billing Questions?? 

I have hired a new billing company in Southern California. I will provide them your insurance information and charges on a weekly basis.  If you are in deductible, you will be charged as a cash patient.  As a courtesy, I can bill your insurance so that these charges can be applied to your deductible.

The choice is yours.  If you'd prefer that we not bill your insurance, that is not a problem.  In some case, your HSA accounts could be better served for your higher medical costing procedures.
